DESIGN Phase Samples

During the DESIGN phase we create a design document (aka "course outline") to summarize our recommendations as a result of the Learning ANALYSIS. It is the blueprint for the learning intervention (often a training course), and this is where we record the delivery method, the topics to be covered, and how they will be organized; but most importantly this is where we define the expected learning outcomes, also called "learning objectives", that learners should be able to DO after completing the learning intervention. These objectives should be "SMART": Specific, Measurable, Actionable, Realistic and Time-bound.  This is critical because the upcoming ADDIE phases will use these objectives as their guide as to what DEVELOP, IMPLEMENT and EVALUATE.

This is also an important place to obtain approval from SMEs and/or project sponsors, so that there is clear alignment, before resources are spent developing unnecesssry content.

There are many effective course design templates but this course outline template has worked well with content developers of all experience levels and on projects of varying complexity.

This is an example of how an outline might be completed for an Oracle Basics and Navigation course that is taken by all learners.
