PLAN Phase Samples
Planning is not an official part of the ADDIE Instructional Design phase, but some form of planning must occur before a learning development program is launched. The PLAN phase is where we align on budget, timeline, scope and quality expectations and is critical for the success of any project. Below are samples of Plan Phase documents.
This is a mockup sample of what a learning solution might look like.
This is a project plan for a small five (5) deliverable project. You can see how the work was broken down into Activities and Tasks and key milestones were indicated. This file was used to assign ownership (Responsible party), track completion, indicated start and end times. Additional reference files were included as tabs to them easy to find and access.
This playbook is an example of a self-study guide provided to cross-functional team interested in ways they can improve their learning programs. The programs, goals, team size, etc, varied greatly so this guide was intended as a starting point to inspire learning leaders as they planned their future learning initiatives, with the goal to move more learning from the classroom into the "flow of work". The roll-out plan included "Lunch & Learns", MS Teams Site, chats and blogs, and formal training sessions.

Additional playbook samples on how to develop and leverage cohorts and SMEs are also available.
This paper is a Master's degree capstone written in 2016 that compares and contrasts the Successive Approximation Model (SAM) instructional systems design (ISD) approach, with the ADDIE framework and demonstrates that though ADDIE is traditionally executed in a very Waterfall manner, it does not have to be.

Two practical approaches to using ADDIE on Agile Scrum projects are provided. The first shows how the instructional design and development work can be incorporated into the sprint itself. The second uses a separate team to do the instructional design and development work following the completion of the sprint. Both demonstrate how ADDIE survives in an Agile world.
